BBO Rita Team - rules

European Open Bridge Championships
San Remo Championships 2009
June 12th – June 27th, 2009
San Remo, Italy

The BBO_PL, in conjunction with Mrs. Rita, are respectfully submitting an official proposal for a progressive or ladder style tournaments. The aim is to create a group of teams who will play in the 4th European Open Bridge Championships being held in San Remo, Italy (June 2009)
It is our intention that the said proposed tournaments be hosted by the BBO game site and the Tournament Directors and judges shall be supplied by BBO_PL. Rita, the sponsor, will then pay hotel rooms for double occupancy from 12th of June to the final day of the tournament if any team(s) progress to the finals. The she will pay airfare, for each team member, to Nice, France (International Airport (shuttle to Sanremo) . This will not to exceed a maximum of 300 euro’s per person. It is our proposal is for the tournaments to be held within a 4-6 week time frame, of BBO’s choosing, with the scoring for individual IMP and pairs in MP with a progressive format.

PROPOSED TOURNAMENT(s) FORMAT

This section is for individual player tournaments.

Stage One:

1)Registration: Participants must register their names, surname, country in a email to: wojela@bridgebase.com
2)Requirements: Must be an active BBO player for the past 6 months.

Stage Two

1)This will be BBO_PL Individual tournaments, qualifying and quarter finals eliminations.
2)Each player must have their own CC filled out and sent to Wojela a week in advance before the tournament start date. BBO’s default CC will not be allowed.
3)Individual tournaments begin
4)All tournaments shall be clocked. All boards shall be 8 minutes.
5)All alerts must be explained in English.
6)BBO_PL shall keep list of all the players for Individual tournament.
7)BBO_PL shall supply 2 Tournament Directors for each match.
8)The 200 players are then qualified to progress to the pairs stage, which is the BBO_Rita semi-finals tournament.
9)Players from these 100 will be allowed to choose their own partner, from the top 500 players for the next stage pairs BBO_RITA semi-finals tournaments.
10)As each pairs are created from these first top 100 the list will be automatically replenished by the next player until all 100 pairs are created. All pairs send must submit their agreed CC on mail wojela@bridgebase.com.
11)If, in the event, there are undecided pairs, BBO_PL reserves the right to assign each individual player to another so that they become a pair.

12)All boards shall be analyzed by expert judges.
13)The scoring format for this stage shall be IMP’s.
14)Dates and times will be sent by Wojela.

This section is for pairs tournaments

Stage Three

1)This will be considered the BBO_RITA Pairs qualifying semi-final elimination tournament
2)100 Pairs tournaments begin
3)All tournaments shall be clocked. All boards shall be 8 minutes.
4)Every pair must have their own CC filled out and sent to Wojela a week in advance before the tournament start date. BBO’s default CC will not be allowed.
5)All alerts must be explained in English.
6)There will be two rounds of tournament play to take course over 2 weeks.
7)A list of the all the players shall be kept.
8)First weeks winners shall be decided by score and expert bridge judges. The first 16 pairs with the top scores shall automatically advance to the finals.

9)The second week will be considered the finals. 18 pairs will advance to the final stage. The 4 best pairs will be decided from N/S (2 pairs) and E/W (2 pairs) positions
10)The finals shall be played with the Howell System and it will consist of the 4 pairs to be played in 3 matches of 20 rounds each, 8 minutes per board.
11). Of the 4 pairs only two pairs can win the tournament and the trip to Italy.
12)The final winners shall be chosen by the top score’s and judges’ decision on player conduct, bidding, professionalisms.
13)If any of the judges’ notes cheating or discrepancies’ with any player bidding or playing, BBO_PL judges reserve the right to disqualify that team or a player from that tournament.
14)All boards shall be analyzed by expert judges
15)The scoring format shall be MP’s and IMP’s.
16)Date and times will be sent via email from Wojela.

All above said tournaments shall be pay tournaments with an entry fee of $1. The 2 winning pairs will compete with Rita and her partner in San Remo. If any pairs are eliminated during the tournament play, they have airfare for their return trip home only.

GUIDELINES OF TOURNAMENTS

CONDUCT, ETHICS AND ETIQUETTE

All participating players must follow the behavioral guidelines set in BBO rules.
Abuse and bad behaviors are not tolerated and will be subjected to sanction.
If you see another player violate any of the rules, please call and inform TD.

TOURNAMENT RULES

1. No player(s) may leave a tournament, in progress, without a very good reason.
Leaving for reasons like having poor scores (runner) will be deemed as bad behavior. If there are known connection issues at your end, you must notify one of the TD’s in advance there are.

2. Chat in English only, BUT do not chat when bidding or play is in progress. Any other language will be considered a violation of the tournament rules.

3. It is recommended to play SAYC, or to specify which parts of your profiles are being used. In Pairs, a filled out posted convention card is strongly suggested to all partnerships.

4. In Pairs, all non-natural (artificial) bids must be alerted and properly explained.
In Individuals, alerts are not necessary. But if you have agreement or understanding with your partner to the artificial bids, then alerts and explanations are necessary and required. Responding with a blank alert to any query, please call the TD.

5. Should you misclick a BID (case of “psyche”), do not alert or write misclick. Call and tell TD at once.

6. Play fast and finish in the allocated time. Do CLAIM when it is obvious.
BBO will assign average minus score to both pairs for any unfinished deal.
Deliberate slow play, in the hope that an average minus score will be better than they were going to receive, will be deemed as bad behavior.

7. If you have any problem at the table, call a TD. The TD will come and try to help you.
All players are expected to cooperate when a Director is investigating an incident.
All players should be polite and respect TD, regardless of what a given TD's actions.

8. Adjustments shall be performed by the TD’s are final. If the player is in disagreement with the TD’s decision, they have the right to appeal to the Arbitration Committee. The said appeal shall be written in English, stating a request for appeal. The tournament number, date and time of said tournament, board number and round number with a full explanation of their reason for an appeal. Once the expert judges shall receive the appeal and review the board their decision is final. They will email back the results and post to our list of players their decision.

8. For any adjustment that will be made, there needs to be proof of damage.
No adjustment for a wrong claim accepted, misclick or bidding misunderstanding

9. Subs are volunteers and are allowed to complete the tournament. In a pay tournament, disconnected players may regain their seat by permission of TD,

10. Cheating in tournaments is strictly prohibited. Public accusations of cheating are not acceptable. If there is suspected cheating of any player you must write a letter of compliant to wojela@bridgebase.com . Please remember to include which tournament number and the name, date and time.
