Yellows - Arigun
Our Turkish BBO population is one of our largest membership group. Taking especial care of them is a group of Turkish yellows, who are all distinguished, respected, and famous among the Turkish Bridge community. This issue's focus is Arigun, but there's also Nafiz and Molvam whom we'll meet soon!
Arigun was in the Turkish National Bridge team for many years. More recently, he's had to stop top flight Bridge because of his busy job and life. But he still gives Bridge lectures at Ankara University, where it's a real course that gives 1 credit. Professor Bridge!
To backtrack a little, all 3 of our Turkish yellows are really famous and well-known Bridge people in Turkiye. Bridge is very popular in Turkiye, and Cengiz confirmed that BBO was a major factor in a big overall improvement in Bridge standard there. More players living in smaller cities and towns got to play and watch good friends play on BBO. In spite of being one of those rare countries where Bridge is a major, popular game, our 3 Turkish yellows, Arigun included, personally know and recognise most Turkish players who participate in National tourneys. All 3 yellows are also very active in Turkish Bridge Federation administration and activities, so turkish members, please don't be shy about approaching your yellows!
Cengiz used to play Table Tennis before he fell in love with Bridge, but his injured "meniscus" insisted he stop playing. Then he got bored and started learning Bridge, and the rest is history. He also likes to take photography, and, cook (yum!) He specialises in Turkish Traditional Foods. After so long in BBO, both as a player and a yellow, Cengiz still finds many things fresh and amusing here. He chuckles whenever he recounts his favourite yellow moment - when he was watching vugraph of a major event, a kibitzer asked if he could boot a famous-star-player-who-shall-rename-nameless for slow play. =P
